The forestry and timber sector in New Zealand in 2024:
👉 32.7 million m3 harvested from 1.8 million hectares, of which >90% radiata pine
👉 A gross contribution to the country’s GDP of €1.8bn and 42,000 jobs
👉 Export turnover of €2.9bn, including €1.5bn in logs and €1.4bn in processed products (sawn wood, pulp, panels); exported mainly to China, Australia, the United States, as well as South Korea and Japan
👉 1.1% of world trade in wood products
👉 A strong appetite for innovations, particularly in terms of: adaptation to climate change, genetic progress, forest health, traceability (including the response to the requirements of the RDUE), reduction of the need for labour, mechanisation, etc.
